Surf and turf in style at D17
There is a mecca of restaurants to choose from in Hong Kong, yet how many of them can recreate the experience of dining at home and offer a novel mix of cuisines at the same time?
Tucked away in the heart of Causeway Bay, D17 Seafood Bar and Grill is a lush, cozy apartment-like establishment that offers light continental dishes with a hint of Japanese influences. The dining area and open kitchen share the same room, thus offering a quiet dining experience and an opportunity to observe the chef at work and even ask him questions. Claiming to be an oyster expert, Chief Chef Yan Lu (formerly at Renaissance Harbour View Hotel and Stonegrill) offers a wide selection, from South African to Irish varieties. Other ‘surf’ dishes to highlight are the French Bread Crab and Grilled Jumbo King Prawn, which make up for an otherwise lackluster selection of ‘turf’ dishes. To finish, a must-try dessert is the foie gras bon bon, made with 72% cocoa and a bit of foie gras.
Gone are the days of microwave TV dinners.
