Motu Kiwi One for the Kiwis

New Zealanders are not exactly the most gregarious of people. They don’t have the bravado of the Australians or Americans,

the zest for life of the Brazilians or the Spanish, the culinary heritage of the French or Italians, or the laissez faire liberalism of the Scandinavians. But what they do have is a passion for their home, especially when far from its shores. 

New Zealanders and All Blacks supporters alike have a new haven in the form of Motu Kiwi, a pint-sized eatery off Hollywood that serves up an innovative menu laced with produce directly from the Land of the Long White Cloud, with subtle touches of the Pacific. Whether you’re a homesick kiwi or just looking for a manly bite before heading out on the town, Motu Kiwi has a little something for everyone, from house-smoked Hawkes Bay lamb ribs with coconut rice and mango chutney; Silver Fern Farms venison hot dogs with fresh sauerkraut and onion marmalade; and Greenlip mussels Kilpatrick with house-smoked bacon and herb crust, to Nelson Littleneck clam sliders with squid ink rolls and ‘Paeroa’ mayo and small-batch Sublime coffee from Nelson. Chef Vini creates imaginative takes on kiwi classics for the revolving specials board and keep an eye out for boutique beers and wines from New Zealand in the coming weeks.
