GENERAL

What on earth is NecesCity?
NecesCity is a free daily email lifestyle wire for guys that distills the city's best of dining, nightlife, gadgets, services, fashion, leisure and travel.

Who or what is a ‘NeCitizen’?
You, of course! You may or may not be new to the city, but as brand-centric, trend-sensitive and culturally-aware as you are, you'll want to stay connected to the city’s latest happenings by subscribing to NecesCity.

What the heck is a ‘Pulsit’?
NecesCity wires NeCitizens to the city's pulse by delivering one short yet meaty tidbit (a.k.a. ‘Pulsit’) a day. Like most people, however, we take the weekend off too.

What, then, are Nessential Pulsits’?
A Nessential Pulsit is just like a regular Pulsit in every way – it is not your run-of-the-mill gem of the city -- except.... it's not really that hidden. Most people you speak to will have heard of this gem, but it is worth mentioning, for it is a must-see, must-go-to, Nessential kind of place that will surely impress your friends who visit from out of town. Please note that Nessential Pulsits are not emailed to NeCitizens. Rather, they are archived on our website for future reference.

How is NecesCity not SPAM?
Our loyal readers (a.k.a. NeCitizens) are our friends or friends of friends or friends of friends of friends… you get the idea. Readers choose to become NeCitizens by subscribing to NecesCity on their own accord.

How do I join?
Just go to our homepage and enter your email address where it says "Subscribe"!

What is MyArchive?
Pulsits are not only archived on our website, but they can also be saved in “MyArchive”. With this personal members’ area, you as a NeCitizen can share your favorite Pulsits with friends, and print them out on a handy list to take with you wherever you go. In no time, your ever-growing collection of Pulsits will become your very own guidebook to the city.

How do I save my favourite Pulsits in MyArchive?
Once you’ve registered for MyArchive, log in before returning to the Pulsits on our website. When you come to your favourite Pulsit, click on the green “Save to MyArchive” icon beneath each Pulsit to save it in MyArchive.

How do I view all the Pulsits that have been saved in MyArchive?
Log into MyArchive from any page on our website, and immediately, you’ll come to your personal member’s area, where all your favourite Pulsits are saved.

How can I search for a particular Pulsit saved in MyArchive?
You can either search by keyword or filter your saved Pulsits by category and/or edition:
1. At the top right-hand corner of MyArchive, there’s a field labelled “search MyArchive”; enter a keyword and press the Enter button to view the search results;
2. To filter by edition (obviously, this function is only available once we have more than one edition) and by category (nightlife, dining, style, gadgets, leisure, services and travel), simply choose from the respective pull-down menus under “Filter MyPulsits” in the green toolbar near the top of the MyArchive page.

What is “MyGuide”? How can I create and print MyGuide?
You can print your favourite Pulsits saved in MyArchive on a personalized list, called “MyGuide”, and take it with you wherever you go. Say, for example, you wish to club hop one night and visit our recommended list of bars and clubs. Here’s what you should do:
1. Under “Filter MyPulsits”, filter your saved Pulsits by category (in this case ‘nightlife’), and select the Pulsits you wish to include in MyGuide. To select individual Pulsits, check the box located on the left of each saved Pulsit (you may have to click on “Deselect All” if all your saved Pulsits have been already selected by default). To select all of your saved Pulsits, click on “Select All”.
2. Once you’ve made your decision, click on “Add selected to MyGuide”. You will be informed of how many Pulsits you have just added into MyGuide. Under “Create MyGuide”, in the green toolbar near the top of MyArchive, you’ll see how many Pulsits you have selected in total.
3. Under “Create MyGuide”, you can also view the saved Pulsits that you have selected by clicking on the “View selected pulsits” link.
4. Once you’re content with your selection, click on “Create PDF” to view your personalized MyGuide in the form of an Adobe .pdf file, which you can then print and bring with you wherever you go or forward to friends (who are going to visit your city, for example).

How can I change my profile information?
You can change your contact info and/or additional profile information by logging into MyArchive and clicking on “Update Profile”.

$         less than $200

I am receiving email recommendations everyday, but why do they look weird?
Our email recommendations are in HTML, which most email clients can handle, such as Gmail, Hotmail, MSN, Yahoo! Mail, Microsoft Outlook, Outlook Express, Eudora Pro, Netscape Navigator, Netscape Communicator and Mozilla. However, Eudora Light and earlier versions of Eudora Pro do not support HTML emails.
If you think your email client can handle HTML, yet our email recommendations look weird to you, it could be that your email client is blocking the images in our email. Depending on which client you’re using, there are different steps to nip this problem in the butt.

Gmail
Open our email and in the green box on top, click on ‘Always Display Images from This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it ’.

Hotmail
Open our email, click ‘open message’, and click ‘show content’ at the top.

Yahoo! Mail
Click ‘options’ to go to the ‘Spam Protection’ section.
Click ‘continue’ until you reach the 3rd step of the process.
Select the ‘Block images in messages that SpamGuard thinks are spam’ option.

Microsoft Outlook
Add NecesCity.com to your ‘safe senders’ list

How can I advertise on NecesCity?

How will my advertisement be different from your featured recommendations?
Should you wish for your advertisement to appear as a Pulsit (email recommendation), we can offer you advertorials, i.e. paid-for content, which we call ‘Partner Pulsits’, and we will label our emails as such on the subject line and in the email header. We reserve the right not to form such a ‘partnership’ should we feel that your establishment, product, service or event does not meet our editorial standards.
