GENERAL

What is NecesCity?
NecesCity is a website and free daily email lifestyle wire for guys that distills the city's best of dining, nightlife, gadgets, services, fashion, leisure, travel, events, arts & culture, sex & dating and career & money.

Who or what is a ‘NeCitizen’?
That's you. You may or may not be new to the city but however clued up you are, we hope you'll want to stay connected to the city’s latest happenings by subscribing to NecesCity.

What is a ‘Pulsit’?
NecesCity wires NeCitizens to the city's pulse by delivering one short yet meaty tidbit (a.k.a. ‘Pulsit’) a day. Like most people, however, we take the weekend off too.

What, then, are Nessential Pulsits’?
A Nessential Pulsit is just like a regular Pulsit in every way except it's not really that hidden. Most people you speak to will have heard of this gem but it's worth mentioning because it is a must-see, must-go-to, Nessential kind of place that will surely impress your friends who visit from out of town. Please note that Nessential Pulsits are not emailed to NeCitizens. Rather, they are archived on our website for future reference.

How is NecesCity not SPAM?
Our loyal readers (a.k.a. NeCitizens) are our friends or friends of friends or friends of friends of friends… you get the idea. Readers choose to become NeCitizens by subscribing to NecesCity on their own accord.

How do I join?
Just go to our homepage and enter your email address where it says "Sign Up"

What does NecesCity do with my personal information?
We at NecesCity take the privacy of your personal information very seriously. We will never disclose your e-mail address, or any other personal information, to any third party without your express consent. Please refer to our Privacy Policy for more details. If you have any queries regarding these matters please contact us at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

How do you choose what to recommend?
At NecesCity we make it our mission to weed out the uninteresting and mundane. Instead we uncover the city's most hidden gems, priding ourselves on maintaining a high standard. We will only ‘NeCertify’ (i.e. give our stamp of approval) to something we think you would find  interesting and worthwhile.

What are ‘Partner Pulsits’?
Occasionally our readers receive email recommendations marked ‘Partner Pulsits’. Although these Pulsits are content paid for by our sponsors, we would never NeCertify (i.e. give our stamp of approval to) something that does not come to par with our editorial standards.

Can I make recommendations too?
Of course. We at NecesCity greatly value any recommendations you may have. Just tip us off at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

I am receiving email recommendations everyday, but why do they look weird?
Our email recommendations are in HTML, which most email clients can handle, such as Gmail, Hotmail, MSN, Yahoo! Mail, Microsoft Outlook, Outlook Express, Eudora Pro, Netscape Navigator, Netscape Communicator and Mozilla. However, Eudora Light and earlier versions of Eudora Pro do not support HTML emails.
If you think your email client can handle HTML, yet our email recommendations look weird to you, it could be that your email client is blocking the images in our email. Depending on which client you’re using, there are different steps to nip this problem in the butt.

Gmail
Open our email and in the green box on top, click on ‘Always Display Images from This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.’.

Hotmail
Open our email, click ‘open message’, and click ‘show content’ at the top.

Click ‘options’ to go to the ‘Spam Protection’ section.
Click ‘continue’ until you reach the 3rd step of the process.
Select the ‘Block images in messages that SpamGuard thinks are spam’ option.

Microsoft Outlook

How do I unsubscribe?
You can unsubscribe from receiving our Pulsits (email recommendations) at any time, by clicking on the ‘Unsubscribe’ link in the footer of our emails and following the instructions, or by clicking on the ‘Unsubscribe’ link at the bottom of our website homepage and following the instructions.

How can I receive email recommendations at a different email address?
First, unsubscribe your current email address; then go to our homepage and enter your name and a different email address.

Why are pictures not showing when I open my pulsits in IE8
In some versions of IE8 the pictures in the pulsits do not load. This often occurs in connection with gmail. In order to show the pulsit correctly, press 'No' when being asked 'Do you want to view only the webpage content that was delivered securely?'
If that question does not show, click 'Tools' -> 'Compatibility View' and try downloading the images again.
