 A respite from the city
Camp out at Long Ke Wan
Feeling stifled in your office cubicle? Looking to get away from the city just for the weekend? Tried and tested, we’ve found the best pocket of Hong Kong ‘wilderness’, where you can set up camp, and be one with nature.
All things considered, Long Ke Wan is an idyllic beach camping spot for many reasons. Nestled in Sai Kung East Country Park, the beach shares the same silky white sand and crystal clear waters as Tai Long Wan to the north-west. While there are barbeque pits, benches and tables, we recommend that you do away with these modern conveniences, and set up camp by the freshwater stream near the far end of the beach. There’s plenty of dry wood for you to build a campfire, and roast a suckling pig, among other barbie-worthy bites. Heck, you may even consider bringing an eski (cooler) for the beer, seeing that it’s just a 15-minute walk from where the taxi has to drop you off. Remote as hell, Long Ke Wan is yours for the taking, save for the junk hires that colour the scenery of the bay.
Tents up. Bonfire alit. Swimmers on. Ultimate bliss.

Best way to get there: Hop into a green taxi from Sai Kung Town Center, and arrive at the cul-de-sac, past the East Dam. Walk for about 15 minutes along the trail pointing to Long Ke Wan.
