BLT Burger
Going Back to Basics
Truffle infused risotto. Kobe beef meat balls. Scrambled eggs with lump fish caviar? Since when did the simplest foods all go so Ab Fab? As chefs look to innovate in the increasingly competitive Hong Kong dining scene, it’s become bloody difficult to get a meal that looks as it was described, tastes as it should and satisfies like we need it to.
American icon BLT Burger has opened in TST and promises a back-to-basics approach to the American hamburger. There’s a choice of 100 percent sirloin, short rib, chuck or brisket patties, a ‘build-your-own option’ armed to the teeth with a raft of toppings, including cheese, bacon and egg – and yes, there’s a few fancy frills, like grilled red peppers, portobello mushrooms and avocado, for the city’s “cuisinestas”. The ‘Classic’ burger (HK$78), which has been fuelling New Yorkers for years, features certified Black Angus beef (which will bring a smile to any Welshman’s face) and the All American menu also features home-made chilli, chicken wings, BBQ nachos, waffle bites, mozzarella sticks and fried dill pickles – none of which are going to break the bank.
As American as Oprah, SUVs and the War on Terror.
