FOR THE PENNYWISE METRO: Get a 10-minute make-over
If you firmly believe that a hair cut doesn’t need to be a two-hour affair then head down to QB (Quick Beauty) House for a snip. Here, you can get a no-fuss haircut in just 10 minutes, and more importantly for only HK$50. Simply grab your ticket and wait in line. It’s not Toni & Guy, but hey, times are hard.

FOR THE CANNY CLUBBER: A lean beer for a lean price

Besides the aphrodisiacal oysters, Oyster Bar has the cheapest Happy Hour beer in town, at least on Tuesdays between 6pm–9pm. One HK$10 note (not coin) will get you your well-deserved bottle of beer (San Miguel, Tsing Tao, Corona), while all standard drinks are the usual 2-for1 everyday.

FOR THE THRIFTY TECHIE: Compare prices at a glance
Find the cheapest gadget without leaving your home by visiting Price.com.hk, a local website that conveniently compares prices of various gadgets, such as cameras, mobile phones and DVD players, which are available in stores. As this is a Chinese language website, make sure you ‘translate this page’ via Google.com first.

FOR THE FRUGAL FOODIE: Who says there isn’t an (almost) free lunch?
Here’s letting you in on a damn good lunch deal in Central. At The Melting Pot, HK$43 (+10%) will stretch a long way. Set lunch (with an Asian twist) includes soup, main course, dessert and a free hot drink. No more burning holes in your pocket.

FOR THE ECONOMICAL TRAVELER: Head to the airport for less
Want value for money for your quick ride? Stay pennywise when you purchase airport express tickets. Magic Globe Travel offers round-trip tickets from Hong Kong Station at HK$130, while New Holidays offers the same at HK$120, but from Kowloon Station. This beats the MTR round tickets hands down (Hong Kong Station: HK$180, Kowloon Station: HK$160).

FOR THE PRUDENT SHOPPER: Forget the fancy schmancy supermarket
If you miss the cheap liquor stores that are a dime a dozen in the U.S., the closest thing would be this little gem in Soho. It has a selection of wines and spirits at lower prices than usual. A 75ml bottle of Jack Daniels sells for HK$220, instead of HK$298 at TASTE. Welcome to “Bargainsville”.
