What a relief for XXX. It’s a 1,600 square foot, bare concrete shell at the end of Wing Lok St. There are no gimmicks. There are simply a couple of projectors and a massive sound system – that’s it. It’s grimy, raw and atmospheric, and you wonder where your fellow clubbers come from. They don’t look like the normal Hong Kong crowd: there isn’t a suit or blackberry in sight, and you can forget about a VIP section.

XXX isn’t actually a club per se (in fact, it’s described as a gallery) so you have to check when they’re hosting nights and what’s on. You’ll feel like you’re in a basement in South London without the fear of becoming the latest statistic of knife crime. It's absolutely epic.

Our one concern is that it’ll get shut down for any number of reasons that Hong Kong authorities seem to throw at the vaguely alternative, so make sure you get down there quickly before it gets red taped. Or as we like to call it, red raped.
