Halloween Highlights 2011

[26/10/11]

There’s plenty going on this weekend for Halloween, which for whatever reason, is the biggest night of the year in Hong Kong. As we grow up sweeties are replaced with booze, or in some cases sweet booze, and trick or treating gives way to liquor treating. Grown men dress up in strange clothes and get utterly bungallowed - there’s no doubting the world is a weird place.

PARTIES: Of course no body can really party on Halloween this year because it lands on a Monday so the man has moved it to Saturday, October 29. Our picks for the evening include:

Alive not Dead Party in Zuma but don’t be fooled by the venue – it’s more strippers than sushi. DJ Ta-Shi, three time Japan DMC Champion, is leading the charge and it's $450 on the door but $350 in advance at the Zuma reception desk. (Central)

Cream Halloween Masquerade in the W headlined by Richard Durand who is apparently the world's 49th best DJ. Not 48th or 50th - the 49th. There's nothing available at the door and today's the last day to buy tickets at $280 so act fast.

The Terror Garden in Insenses where a two night stay at the Andara Resort Phuket and other little treats are up for grabs. It's only $180 on the door including a drink so if you've spent everything on your Kahl Drogo outfit, head on down. (Soho)

Ocean Park. We’re not joking. It’s messier than the first time you tried candy floss. They've got 20 haunted attractions as well as hundreds of ghouls so for $325 you'll get plenty of bang for your buck. (South Side)

DRESS: In terms of clothing, if you’re not DIY-ing it (and you’d be mad to try that) there are loads of options aside from the standard Pottinger Street fare:

Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, imagine the world’s biggest dress up cupboard. Just don’t tell your girlfriend. (Wan Chai)

Ivy League Co which is more makeup than clothing but that’s ok because it’s Halloween. (Jordan)

MaksWellCostume for great outfits but also other giblets like accessories and wigs. (Chai Wan)

Remy Fashion if you want to get serious because they have a fulltime tailor to make alterations. A little too serious mind, but we’ll leave that up to you. (Central)

See you on the other side.
